if you pull off the overdrive selonoid and gring a channell form the two holes inside the depth of the inner o-ring you will have a hydrolic overdrive instead of electric i just finished this and it works great and no need to deal with any electrical problems i got the part from a pick-a-part place for $5 spent a hour and no more waiting for overdrive

Jerryg951, do you mind being more specific please? I was finally able to get a hold of the soldering iron about an hour ago. Unfortunately I need to be up early for a busy day tomorrow and night.

In the same vein, I opened up the plastic cover of the center console but was unable to remove the shifter **** to expose the OD wires on the shifter to test if the OD button itself was to blame. I remove the small plastic lock on the bottom but the **** was still on tight. Can anyone help?

This is basically what he is saying:
http://www.ipdusa.com/Volvo-200/Tran...-266-672-1891/

But you can cut this channel yourself using your old solenoid. But you will no longer be able to lock-out OD.

Do you think that the above mentioned product would fit into my vehicle? I really have no need to turn off the Overdrive. I drive a wonderful 1992 940GL 8-valve.

The IPD plate is for the AW70/71 transmissions (Aisin Warner). Thats most likely what is in your 940, but you'll want to look at the label (driver's side) to be sure.

The AW/70 plates I have seen say "03-70" printed on them.

FYI
I had the same problem with my 91 240.I replaced the motor mounts and the trans. mount. And YAHOO the problem went away.
The trans. mount was the worst of them all.My shifter was shaking side to side when I would hit a bump in the road.
I hope this info. helps.

ALRIGHT, I was finally able to procure a jack and the when I checked the transmission..... No ID plate! Great! I can identify where it's supposed to be but it's not there... Interesting... Anyway, I remember my old Chilton's said the B230F engine has a AW70/71 tranny. I'm going to go ahead and order the part. I live in Maine so I'd rather get this done before the cold winter sets in!

Regarding the mounts. My engine mounts are A-OK but the tranny mounts are definitely on their way out. My shifter also shakes during operation most of the time. Is the the tranny mount a one man job or will I have to lower the tranny completely?

Thanks guys

No need to drop the tranny when replacing the mount. But you need to remove the tranny cross member, which is the supporting beam. Put the front of the car on ramps or jack stands. Support the tranny with a floor jack then remove the cross member. Should be two bolts on each side.

Yes, it has an OD button on the shifter. I was able to remove the console but not the shifter ****. Any advice on how to do this? I own a 1992 940 GL 8-Valve.

Hey all,
I'm suffering from the same issues right now. Finally crawled under the car to look and the white wire that leads to the OD Solenoid wire is all kinds of cracked...

Not to hijack the thread, but does anyone know if someone sells just the wire that leads from the sifter inside the car to underneath?

Thanks

I got my flexy 12mm ratcheting wrench on black friday from craftsman.

I got my overdrive block of plate today from IPD

And now I'm well on my way to rounding out the 2 bolts holding on the freakin' solenoid... This wasn't completed because the wrench fell apart first...

Does any one know what the size of the bolts are so i can go get a couple of replacements for them???

I had to trace the wires leading to the OD component of the transmission. Sure enough, the wires were cut from wear and tear over the years. I simply reconnected them and the OD works just fine.
