I've been having a problem with my overdrive randomly disengaging - the up pointing arrow will come on and it won't shift into 4th. Pressing the button on my shifter does nothing and it corrects itself when it feels like it. I'm hoping it's just a bad relay but wanted to check before I buy.

Usually that is a bad relay.
If the overdrive kicks out and the Arrow DOESN'T come on then I would say the soleniod.
But since the light is coming on the relay is most likely the problem.

Save yourself future years of tail chasing, get the by-pass plate kit from IPD and be done with the "why no OD" blues.

 

Amen to that. I just recently placed the overdrive fix-it kit on my 91 240 and I have my overdrive back. However, my overdrive arrow light continues to remain on and when it is on I cannot raise/lower my windows. I have had this problem for a while, I thought the fix-it kit might remedy this, but it only remedied the overdrive problem. I would appreciate anyones insight regarding this.
