Oh, I'm not complaining. I was lucky enough to have owned those things. I've got all the tools I could need now (well, one could always use more tools) and some really cool motorcycles. I'm alive, and have a pretty good life and a good woman. My life just isn't very traditional. But neither is my outlook, I suppose. Not really much into politics either these days. I just realized they didn't hold much sway over my happiness and general well being.
Anyway, I hope the distributor is dried out today. I'll like to give the gold brick a spin and see if I've cleared up the overheating issue.

Mostly because I've never had health insurance so I've only been to a doctor 3 times in the last 22 years and each time has cost me thousands of dollars, while this trip to the DMV was probably the most expensive one I've ever had at $523. But on the plus side, it took less the 30 minutes out of my day and they were pretty helpful.
The thing I don't understand is how the ones that got us into the mess we are in (I hear about it but really I don't see it to much in my own life), The bankers, wall street, etc keep getting tax breaks and bailouts and when it comes to cutting the budget, everyone expects us to get rid of teachers pensions, sesame street, after school programs, cops, and planned parenthood. Can someone explain that to me???
Somethings are better under gov control anyway. There was a time in the USA that the fire dept was a private business and if you didn't have cash when they showed up to put out your house fire then they would let your house burn. My house burnt a few years ago and I'm glad they pulled me out of it. But the insurance that I'd been paying for years wouldn't cover anything in my garage because it wasn't attached to my house. So I lost a restored 71 Dodge Demon, 2 restored Vespa's, a '64 Honda Dream, a '66 Honda SuperHawk and a crap load of tools. The didn't compensate me for any of it.
So like I said, Big Gov bad but big corporations worse. IMHO
Insurance mandates: state govt requirement...
You're gonna agree with Pierce about dealing with health insurance, although you never have.....ok. see above point.
Regarding your loss of unattached garage...absolute bummer, and sorry to hear it. Your fault for not having the proper insurance however.
Regarding the financial ding because of different state insurance laws...that's govt. Insurance companies would love to have you carry coverage everywhere you go. In CA, motorcycle riders who move here from out of state get dinged with HUGE insurance costs, because of the STATE MANDATE that says they are an "inexperienced rider" until they have had a CA M1 license for 3-5 years. The insurance charges is, but the state imposes it.

It absolutely amazes me that people who claim the govt destroys everything it touches want to entrust them with greater responsibility. (not saying that's what anyone here is doin, just sayin). One trip to huffington post was enough to make me cry. Oh, watching and listening to Pelosi has the same effect on me. Actually, knowing that people listen to and believe her is the worst part.

I guess this is relevant to the topic, I get OVERHEATED at the blatant stupidity of our so called representatives who are not looking out for OUR best interest, but instead are only seeking to advance their "political career".

Well, regardless. I drove the 240 around today in the hot Miami sun, with the a/c on and the temp gauge rarely even made it to 9 o'clock. Almost always just under. It did spike for a minute up about 3/4 up when I was sitting in traffic, stopped for about 10 minutes. But once I started moving it went back down. I don't think the aux fan is working. I'll look at that tomorrow.

My 240 does the same thing...slow moving traffic, or stopped completely, it rises. Driving at speed in 'clean air', it stays at 9. When you look into the fan, make sure its kicking on. If its not, reverse the wires and see if it kicks on then. You'd laugh at how many times people wire those things up backwards...

if that car has LH2.4, there's a Diagnostic Test Mode 3, on pin 2 of the DTC, which will cycle the electric fan low/high/low/high a few times, test some other stuff, and repeat. extremely handy for sorting out electric fan issues.

see the 740/940 FAQ OBD instructions, like here...
Engine and OBD Diagnostic Codes

My Volvo hasn’t really been overheating but the temperature gauge has been rising and getting close to the red zone.

Hi. I’m Julia I live in Atlanta. I have a 1992 Volvo 940. It has approximately 300,00 miles on it. I need help diagnosing a problem.

The issue:
When the car idles in traffic for 10 minutes the temperature gauge begins to rise. If I begin driving at 30+ mph the temp. gauge moves back to the center. Also, the temp. gauge will move back to the center if I turn on the heat full blast.

A little bit of history:
About 2 months ago, I began to notice puddles underneath my car. It turned out that the puddles were coolant and my mechanic I found a crack in the radiator hose and I had the hoses replaced. I also had the radiator flushed while it was in for service. Since that time the car has been running just fine. No issues until 2 days ago…

Two days ago while idling in traffic for 15 minutes, the temperature gauge began to slowly rise again. I again turned the heat on to full blast and the temperature gauge needle returned to the center. I immediately took the car in to have the coolant level checked and I was normal.

I’m really hoping it is nothing major like a head gasket issue b/c I will be relocating to the UK in early Q1 and I don’t want to spend a lot of money on repairs.
