The factory Swedish Blue paint is fading on my 1993 940 wagon. White primer is increasingly showing through. No body damage. I still drive this car everyday, and am thinking if getting it painted. But does new paint reduce the value of these old cars? I come from the air cooled VW scene. The patina look is all the rage over there. Same for Volvos?

 

realistically, a 93 940 wagon with faded paint is not worth a lot of money. If you are thinking of selling it, then the question becomes is doing a $2000 paint job on a $2000 car (or even a $5000 car) worth it? Think of it this way - can you sell the car as is for say $3000? If you do a $2000 paint job, would you now be able to get $5000 for the car?
