Parking light socket, 94 940, compatibility issue
Hi, I was lucky enough to have someone steal my right side parking lamp assembly complete with bulb and socket (there was no way it could have fallen out and cleanly disconnected itself from the harness) I ordered a new lamp assembly assuming it would come with the socket... NOPE, and I had a heck of a time finding a replacement. I did find one in a salvage yard, BUT... only had two wires going to it instead of 3, so I am assuming it came from a car that did NOT have fog lamps... Mine does have fog lamps. While I am waiting for my ordered part to come, I have the salvage socket installed, the parking light works, and it blinks, but it blinks fast as if there is a bulb out (though there isn't) My question is... why would having fog lights have anything to do with the type of socket you have for the parking lamp? I would think there should be no connection. Also, can you see any damage occuring because I am using the incorrect socket in the mean time? (don't want to get pulled over for a light out)
Well, 94 is a bit new for me...but I can't believe much changed from my 90. A bulb socket w/ 3 conacts is for a dual element bulb, i.e. 1157. The 2 contact socket is for a single element bulb, i.e. 1156 or the smaller 961's. Sounds like power is maybe going to the wrong element.
Thanks for the reply swiftjustice, I will have to check tomorrow in the daylight. The harness from my car has three wires and three connectors, the socket i acquired today from the salvage yard had only two connectors (with a blank spot for a third) and the blub that was in the socket was a dual element amber 1157. I will have to check to see which bulb is on the driver side for comparison. I asked the guy at the salvage yard what year/model the part came from and he was rather unhelpful. He just said " late 80's or so wagon"
