ok so i just got my first brick it is a 1991 volvo 240 and the pcv is clogger could i buy a catch can so it is easier to get to next time i need to and it so how would i go about it
If it’s just the flame trap/filter then that should be easy to get to. IPD sells the relocation kit (although I think after 1988) all the 240s had the revised location that’s easily accessible.
As for the box itself, it’s not bad. I just did the breather box cleaning maybe a month ago on my 1991 240 as well. The biggest challenge was taking off the small screw that holds the injector harness. Outside of that, figure about 20-25 mins to get the box out. A wobble joint helped on the rear bolt.
i see but i feel like a catch can is easier and looks cool and if so could i just use a bottle or should i use one that goes back to the crank case for the vacuum

we put 500K miles on a 240 we'd bought new, and never had an issue with the flame trap, just cleaned it every few oil changes. my turbo wagon 740 bought when it already had 200K miles, I had to replace the oil seperator box as it was cracked, but thats cheap and easy.
anyways, the oil seperator box is mounted on the side of the block to a port thats on the top side of a flange on the block... you would need to replace it with a fitting the same size and shape with a U pipe to your 'catch can', which would be buried quite deeply under your intake manifold where it would be hard to access. it quite likely would fill up with oil fairly fast since the port is so low on the block. Normally, the crankcase fumes go into the oil seperator box, and the oil falls back down into the engine, the excess crankcase pressure is vented into the intake air stream so the engine can burn it off.

i didn’t know it was that big of a hassle i saw someone on youtube with a a catch and his was mounted off to the side but anyways how do you clean the box and the hoses just spray brake clean or what and what’s determines if you need a new box just does need to be broken or if it’s dirty
About once every 30K miles or so, remove the flametrap that's in the tube fitting on the top of the box, and swish it in a tin of solvent, put it back unless the wholes are completely clogged, then replace it (its cheap!)... about once every 200K miles, remove the oil separator box and swish a little solvent in it amnd inspect it, replace only if its cracked or broken, as the replacement plastics probably aren't as good as the original.. Brake Kleen is way too strong for the plastic, I'd at most use throttle body cleaner, or something like that, or just mineral spirits.
the flame trap itself is this little disk "C", the oil separator is 'F'
Yikes! I used brake cleaner when I degreased the breather box on my car.
OP, I had more luck taking a long screw driver and using to break all the sludge on the inside. As does repeatedly whacking the separator box on the outside with the handle of a screwdriver. That got like 90% of the crud out. The box on my car was completely clogged.
Brake cleaner (although seems like throttle body cleaner might be better) to get rid of the rest.
I also did not replace the o-ring on the bottom because the replacement o-ring never arrived in the mail...
