The up and down by reversing the polarity of the voltage to the window motor. The switches not only supply power, but the ground connection also. Contacts are made (normally closed) in switches that are notbeing pressed. One or more of these normally closed contacts is not being made.
Good Luck.

It's a nice afternoon's project to remove, clean, and lube the window controls. Loosen the armrests until you can remove the control. Unplug it from the harness. At the bottom of each switch, you can gently pry back a couple of tabs and get to the guts. Very simple, just a ball bearing and a contact. Clean the contacts, lube everything, and you should be fine. This has fixed every power window issue that I've had.

WD40 is your friend. I had the same problem, albeit, the window used to go down but not come up (even from the passenger's seat). Sprayng WD40 and leaving it for a while worked for me.
