Question Concerning 1980 GL Brush Pack
As the title states, I have a 1980 GL - fuel-injected with 111,000 km.
The power started to go in the car the other day, so I pulled the alternator out and checked the brush pack. The brushes were virtually non-existent so I'm going to change them. A friend of mine grabbed the alternator off of a '79 carburated engine and the pack looked quite different. His had a plastic casing with nothing on it on the non-brush side. Mine had a wire attached to the casing. Does anybody know what this wire is for?? I initially thought that it was for the temperature sensor but now am wondering if it's for the fuel pump relay or injectors. I think that the part number is 243947 but even that's a bit murky because in Canada they sold both the carburated and fuel-injected engines.
Any help on this is greatly appreciated!! Thanks in advance!!

Thanks for the quick response, Lev.
I certainly want to get the right pack, and I'd prefer to buy it new, but I'm having a bit of a problem figuring out why my friend's brush pack doesn't have a wire on the casing and mine does.
