Default question on connector

A friend has 1991 940 turbo intercooled. On the wiring that splits off to the mass air flow sensor there is another plug on it that has power coming to it. Tries calling a Volvo dealership with a part # off it and they have no clue. Anyone???

Dealers are useless on anything older than about 10 years nowdays.

this connector, how many pins, what color, what pin layout? there's a 2 pin connector over there somewhere with a pink wire thats the starter motor override, attaching a switch to ground lets you fire the starter from under the hood.

there's something labeled 'PTC resistor' thats got 2 pins, blue-yellow and black, thats wired to the same blue-yellow wire that goes to the MAF pin 5 (also to the ECU pin 9... it also goes to the idle control valve pin ?, and radio suppression relay pin 2). Blue-yellow comes from the main fuel injection relay, and is the power to the whole FI system

this PTC resistor is only on the turbo cars.

update. ahHAH! the big air hose that goes from the MAF down to the turbo, near the bottom, there's a fitting stuck into it thats connected to the crankcase ventilation hose that goes over the valve cover to the oil seperator box under the intake manifold.... on the 1991 but not my 1992, this fitting is electrically heated, presumably to melt any goo that accumulates there (starting in 1992, they made a bunch of little changes, the air plumbing is different, the radiator is much bigger, no more mechanical fan just an electric one, etc). your wire plugs into this fitting.

as a matter of fact, I decided since I had 1991 and 1992 turbos in my driveway side by side, I'd take pictures of the -1991 and the 1992- configuration.

first, the 91:

(more 1991 engine pics here 1991 B230FT 940SE - pierce's Photos )

and for completeness, the 1992- updated configuration (bigger radiator with electric fan, and new style turbo air plumbing)

(more 1992 pics 1992 B230FT 740 Turbo - pierce's Photos )

the 1991 is a 940SE (basically an extra year 760T, or a one year only 960 T)
the 1992 is a 740T (virtually same as a 940T)

note, I processed those pictures to improve the contrast of the dark stuff, so they look a little fake.
