Rear suspension 1988 to 244
Just bought a very nice 1988 to 244 previous owner replaced coils and shocks to heavy duty and it rides way too stiff. Like a buck board. Sometimes it feels like it bottoms out in the rear. Can I replace the shocks with a softer shock will it help at all. I really do not want to get into replacing the coils again. Shocks that are in it now are racing shocks and are very very stiff. Thank you, Richard
shocks ideally are matched to the springs. stronger spring requires more damping (aka stiffer shock).
but stiffer suspension shouldn't be bottoming out.
anyways, assuming the replacement springs are NOT lowering springs, AND they didn't install some crazy coilover racing suspension kit, you should be able to use the Bilstein Touring shocks, whatever those are called now, and get a softer ride.... the only way to return it entirely to stock would be to replace the springs, too.
rear shocks are pretty easy to replace, front shocks are mcpherson struts inside the spring, not so easy.
