Default replacing rear main seal 240 dl

I have developed a small oil leak in the lower rear end of the motor(mostly likley due to a dirty flame trap, replaced with a new one and the dealer recomedned removing the plastic screen) oil loss so far has been small and managible. Does any one have any tips or tricks on replacing the seal and is there another tranny that would fit the 240dl maybe something a bit quicker.

The trick is to drop the tranny and change the seal, if you can call it a trick... And the tranny you got in there, well, it's the fastest one there is for that car!

Before dropping the tranny I would try Auto-RX engine treatment. It won't hurt and might help.

How many miles on that engine?

the odometer gear broke at around 274,200 and she has been driven half way across canada since then as well as being the daily driver. I did use a seafoam treatment in the intake and poured into the crankcase, and had good results. the car went from being slugish to having some more power, but the leak still remained.
