Roof rack or not?
Why? They rust, they leak, they leave ugly spots under the rails and are aerodynamically inefficient. And how many times do you see a loaded up a la Beverly Hillbillies car lumbering down the road? You have plenty of space inside this wagon for anything except a 8x4 sheet of plywood.
Yep, if you want to put stuff on top, search for Thule bars that clip on (on my 850, Volvo actually put a dimple at the top of the door frames for their factory clip on bars!) Plus there's no noise when you take em off
White245 that is a GORGEOUS car. I wouldn't mess with the original optional "luggage" rack. If installed at the factory as new, they can last years without leaking. Mine has moss growing underneath the slats that I have to keep trying to scrape out, but still does not leak. The Tule racks are a good suggestion for when you need to carry something up top; a much better option than the luggage rack. Your 245 has gutter rails. The mounts are easy to find used; maybe not new anymore. And the Thule racks are Made in Sweden, also. Back in the day, Volvo even had Thule make them with the Volvo name on them.
Thanks All,
I have bought a good used Thule rack set from Russell at Alexander Motors.
Although I will probably only mount them when needed, as I like the clear long-roof look more and more.
