Default Seeking rare part

Hello Everyone,

Im hoping the right person reads this, I'm looking for these window switches, Working or Not. i have a few spare parts here....

They have Volvo stamped in the back and Mera in cursive on top they say 13, 89

they are not the generic factory installed window switches, i believe they are dealer installed option. There are 2 in the center dash, and two were in a special Volvo switch box that was mounted to the center console for the rear.

My research leads me to believe that they may have come stock for cars with Power Windows options pre 1975.

If you or anyone you know has some of these please let me know.
thanks.

the first year 240 was 1975. so, pre 75 would be a 140 or something.

Yeah that sounds correct. I wouldn't know, I have never seen a 140 with Power windows, also never seen a 240 with a power window set up like mine.

Well its definitely not factory, but all the parts are stamped Volvo, so its gotta be at least a kit from a dealer... check the first pic i posted where it has Volvo on the back of the switch.

They are factory Volvo, first generation 240. Try places that specialize in vintage Volvo parts.

oh I thought I'd looked before at the early prints. the 75-76 greenbook shows no power windows, but I see them there on a 77-78 wiring diagram. the 4-door had the rear windows on the top of the center console behind the parking brake. also 1979.

in 1980 they moved to the doors.

looks to be volvo PN 1215138 for those switches.

That is a very good idea. Do you happen to know of any? All the places i could find were for 140 series or older, Volvo dealer says NLA.

Thanks for those Part Numbers, that is at least something to start with.

I dunno,b ut its probably not too hard to rewire for newer switches, like 240/740/940 ones.

I thought about re-wiring some switches, but the new ones are 5 wire, old ones are 4. plus the new ones wouldn't fit in that handy holder... I'm pretty sure i can find some somewhere..

Thanks Lev ill give them a call tomorrow.

Called this place, spoke with a friendly fellow. However before he had even herd what i was looking for he said he wouldn't have anything that new. I tried to explain to him that it was from a 79 then he asked where i was located. Naturally I'm in CA, and he said well i don't ship and i don't have a computer so i can't help you. Back to square 1...

Anyone know of any other vintage volvo shops?

Thanks

Is the old switch broken? It can be taken apart and the contacts cleaned. I have done this before, but not with your switch.

Usually need to lift the housing over some barbs. It may be worth a try. Then clean the contacts with 400 sandpaper.

eeeek, don't use 400 grit on plated switch contacts, you'll remove any residual plating. it will work for a little while then corrode up even faster than before.

I've successfully cleaned switch and other electrical contacts with a clean soft pink pencil eraser and a bit of deoxit d100 (which is an electrical contact lubricant).

I wish it was only bad contacts, It arrived this way to me from the P/O, the switch was already broken, i have a few extra internal parts for it though, so that why i was looking for switches working, or not...

I took the others apart and cleaned them with just a rag, seemed to me most of the junk in there was dust and dirt held up by 30 year old electrical grease. wiped em down with a rag, blew them out with a little air, greased em up, and the ones that have all the internal parts are working great!

Wow, Just WOW. Went down to C-5 Automotive in Alameda, not only did he have two of the exact switches i needed, tho i only needed one, he gave me both, for, wait for it, no charge. said he was just happy someone was using them, and "Good luck". Then i asked him a quick timing question and he got out the timing light and fiddled wight the distributor and told me how he thought i could fix it. Gosh make me wish i lived closer to alameda, great guy and great Volvo mechanics there.
