I was changing my alternator this weekend. When I was under the car removing the bolts, I saw what appeared to be a sensor mounted on the engine - coming off the engine at about a 15 degree angle - with a red/white wire which looked like it had been cut.

Can anyone tell me what that "sensor" may be? Where would that red/white wire have been hooked up to?

 

Possibly a knock sensor..... but what year, model, and engine is your car?

where exactly on the engine block is this sensor? there's a whole series of sensors that go into the head just below the intake manifold.

I figured out it was the oil pressure sensor.....right by the alternator..
