Shady A/T 5th gear
Hello fellow Volvo drivers...
I have taken notice upon my Volvo, a beautiful '91 740T, that the 5th gear will sporadically engage/disengage while driving(whether it be cold or warm). At first it was for only a bout 10 miles and 5th came back up...a day later the A/T 5th gear became more and more distant in engaging, I found myself in the left-hand lane. The next day I find, now, that 5th gear will engage on a luck basis...i'm seeing a pattern here. ERRG.
Before I take my Volvo in for inspection, i would like to ask for any and all advice regarding what i might check; A/T fluid, cleaning, electronic components...etc.
p.s.: as best i checked, cold engine running, the fluid level on the -145degree side was slighty over max, seemed alright. Fluid had brown coloration and a slight oil/chemical scent.

RE: Shady A/T 5th gear
O/D Relay? O/D button? Solenoid? Now that's starting to sound like my old 244 tank...umm, yeah.
Now as far i can tell,
my 740T has it's 4th gear disengagment button placed on the side of the...Automatic Transmission gear selector(with lock-up). I looked up the fuse diagram and #12 fuse might be looked at. Also on the relay side, i noticed that there is an overdrive relay and now i will check it out.
Thank you for your assistance, truly.
