Can someone tell me the proper way to remove the **** for the automatic transmission shifter? I want to take off the shifter cover to work on the PNP switch and the gear selector light.

The switch and bulb are accessible without removing the gear selector indicator/cover. Simply undo the screws and lift it up, then work around the chunk of plastic -

The **** is just pressed on - but you might damage the OD off switch and wiring during the removal process.
