Default shiftlock on & windows not going down?

hi all!
i got my baby (92 240 wagon) two months ago and she’s perfect in every way. my mom had 240s growing up and i’m so excited to have my own (she’s got 394k and still goin strong!)
ive got an awesome mechanic who specializes in 240s & shes mechanically a dream.
however ive noticed some issues with the gear shift being stuck in park - figured out via my owners manual it is the shiftlock and have been able to manually switch the button under but it’s getting a little tiresome. any idea how much this would cost to fix/can i do it myself?
also my windows haven’t been going down lately and her rear light is out - any way these probs are linked?
my mom’s Volvo’s had some issues with heaters and lights even when the transmission engine and everything under the hood was perfect.
thanks for any input!

i've had success by taking the cover off the shifter cleaning and lubing the area with wd-40.
since you just got the car you would be wise to clean and/or replace ALL the fuses in the fusebox.
the rear light again maybe just corrosion take the bulb out clean and reinstall first.
plenty of info here about all those subjects.

and.. welcome to volvo forums.

The shiftlock is a pain to repair, you can try the wd40 but I am skeptical. The problem is usually the solenoid or the micro switch. Either problem requires the removal of the assembly, soldering, etc. not fun! I'd not attempt a repair, better go to your mechanic.

working fairly reliably by cleaning and using wd-40 on the area....how long it will last unknown.

Silvermine: You were (are) lucky. The shiftlock is mainly electric, not mechanical, so lubing it is not likely to help... I guess the solenoid plunger that does the locking can get gummed up and in that case a little light oil can't hurt...
I have tried repairing them with no luck, I prefer to just get another used unit, and swap the whole thing. Just taking the shift **** off is a pain!
