Hey all. Cleaning out my '91 740 for a potential buyer I noticed that the spare tire was shredded. The tread just came right off. I'm in need of a new spare tire now. At least the rim is in good shape. I tried a local tire shop and they can't get any and don't have any. I tried my local Volvo dealer and they can't find any 15 inch spare tires, just 16s and above. Anyone know where I can find a spare tire that isn't a junk yard? Most of the junk yards I go have tires worse than I do.

 

I believe a 740 has room for a standard spare (I know a 240 does), just get a regular steel or alloy rim and put a standard sized tire on it

 

That's what has been suggested to me by most everyone I call. Guess I'll just do that if I can't find a spare within the next couple of days.

 

You might want to search your local craigslist for a used Volvo rim and tire.

 

that same thing happened to me in our '92 - the original spare which was never used just was shredded and the rim being a weird size was useless. just found a 14 inch steelie and put a used tire on it...

 

I had to drive on my spare for a few miles recently. I was shocked at how poorly the car handled. It felt downright dangerous. Come to find out, I have 18 inch wheels but the spare is a 17 inch. Has Volvo designed it this way?
