shudder when decelerating

shudder when decelerating
Hopefully someone has successfully dealt with this one. 1989, 240, 5 sp. manual, ~150k miles.
When slowing down, with or without brakes, the car begins to shudder as speed dips below 25mph. Shudder increases as speed decreases. Can be felt throughout car and is very apparent below10 mph all the way to 0 mph.
Does not occur during acceleration, and shudder goes away if I accelerate without coming to a stop. Shudder is not present if speeed is above 25mph. At freeway speeds all seems normal.
Does not seem to be brakes since it happens whether or not I am on the brakes. Also, there is very little vibration transmitted through pedal other than what seems incidental, same for steering wheel.
My thought is either rear wheel bearings or driveshaft. Any thought on other possibilities or how totroubleshoot and diagnose?
Thanks in advance.

RE: shudder when decelerating
Ted,
The shudder does not noticeably transmit through the shifter ****. However, since you mention it, I will take the car out for a drive during lunch and be more certain. Mostly it seems to come through the body of the car in general, I feel it much morethrough the seat and in floor.
Thanks.

RE: shudder when decelerating
I took the old beast for a slow run around the block paying close attention for any abnormal vibrations coming through the stick, none. In fact the vibration seems to generally be throughout the car EXCEPT the stick.
Does this rule out the driveshaft/carrier bearings?
Does this instead put the spotlight on wheel bearings?
Thanks.

RE: shudder when decelerating
Yeah, I think you're right. The shudder has subsided for the most part, only to be replaced with a light metallic *****.................*****............*****....ch ink..*****.chinkas I accelerate up to about 25mph. Seems to come from right underneath, so I assume the carrier bearing is shot. Gonna measure my driveshaft today and order up the replacement.
