Size of wheel spacers 90 240
Ok, I have a set of 16x7 rims with 6 inch offset to the inside. I have a 90 volvo 240. Basically I have jacked it up and done some measuring and as far as I can tell I am thinking I need 2 inch spacers? Does this sound correct. These wheel were given to me and are off a jaguar the bolt pattern is the same. Thanks for any advice.
on the wheels you should find a stamping ETxx ie ET40 or ET20 - that indicates the offset. The Volvo 240s run a 20mm offset (ET20), which is typical of RWD cars (ie 10 to 20 mm). Most FWD and AWD cars run 35-50mm offsets (example 850/V70s are ET40). Do you know which year/model Jag the wheels came from? that can tell you the factory set up for bolt pattern (ie 5x108), center bore (65.1mm is what I think the 240 has). A quick check and I saw most 2000+ year Jags run 5x108s with a 63mm center bore and 40-50mm offset so you'd be looking at a 25mm or so spacer, plus the spacer would need to accomodate the center bore since most newer cars are "hub centric" - meaning the hub centers the rim, not the lug bolts....
Volvo 240/740/940 uses ET20 offset. so you'll need 30mm spacers to mount your et50 jag wheels on the volvo
16" rims are going to make a 240 pretty harsh, and those are *WIDE* rims for that body, you'll likely need a big tire to match the outer diameter of the stock 185/70-14's, something like 205/55-16, I think. which, actually, is what I have on my 740T wagon, and are in fact too harsh for the bad roads around here.

Stock wheels on the 1990 240 are 5.5Jx14 ET20. To fit 16x7 ET50 wheels, you may also have to allow for the rim width, which is .75" greater on both sides, just n case the rim fouls the suspension, so you may need wider spacers, say 50 mm, or 2" like you suggested originally.
