Smoky Distributor Cap

Smoky Distributor Cap
Hello,
I've got a '92 745 turbo. Over the last few years, I've had to replace my distributor cap a couple times, but there has never been any visible damage.
This last time, car wouldn't start, so I replaced the cap and it fixed it. But there seems to be a little smoke coming from the cap? I'm working in a dark parking garage so it's hard to tell. What might cause this? I thought maybe a bad distributor seal could leak oil into the cap and cause it? I'm also pretty sure I'm due for a PCV job, could that cause it? It's strange because every time I have replaced the cap, it is good for several thousand miles, and then fails out of nowhere with no visible damage.
Thanks,
Jor

Yea that seal in the distributor fails and leaks oil. Leaky oil and hot head yea it could be smoking.
I’ve heard a way to tell if you have a clogged pvc system is to put a ballon over your dip stick tube and see if it has positive pressure. I’ve recently cleaned out my flame trap pvc on my 90 740 it’s kind of a pain in the *** but you just have to muscle it out of there.
That’s strange that your cap is failing so frequently. I’d double check that the part is seating correctly. Also are you having wobble in the distributor shaft? It seems like that should last longer.
