Default New distributor cap and rotor

I just got back from the auto parts store with a new cap and rotor because the engine is having a random miss fire. I replaced the wires and plugs about 20k miles ago and believe it's the distributor. The distributor, to my knowledge, has not been serviced since about 1992-1993. I have never attempted to replace these before only because they worked fine, until now. Any knowledge about these would be helpful.

hopefully the new parts are Bosch?

otherwise, what are you asking, how to replace the distributor cap? remove two screws, take old cap off, pry off rotor, press on new rotor, move all wires from old cap to new cap in same order, install new cap, tighten screws.

Thanks. Just in case, is the rotor supposed to be advanced a certain degree?

if you don't unbolt the distributor body from the head, the timing will be untouched. wait, 1991? Thats LH2.4, the timing is entirely electronic, from the crank-position-sensor.

the rotor should only go on the shaft one way.

There are 3 screws, or captive 8mm bolts. Use an 8mm angled box end wrench to get them off; close to impossible to do with a screwdriver...

Also, now they recommend to discard the plastic cover that comes with the dist. cap. That cover has been found to retain water as these cars may leak from the inboard part of the hood in heavy rain and this would cause misfires.
