I have a 940 wagon and it's time to replace the spare tire. The one that was there when I got the car is the wrong size and doesn't really fit in the spare tire well. Anybody know the right size?
The volvopartswebstore.com site suggests that the wheel is a 4.5x15", p/n 1229494; and the tire/wheel assembly is p/n 3530963, but it doesn't show the tire size and both items are listed as no longer available. It doesn't say whether those part numbers have been superseded.
The wheel that came with the car is marked "4˝J x 15 x 25" and "1329537". It might not be the original.
There's no way a standard size tire/wheel will fit in the spare tire well. I could perhaps remove the third-row seat, grab a Milwaukee Sawzall® reciprocating saw, do some Appalachian Engineerin' and make it fit, but I don't want to do that.

I have only owned 240s and they all had mini spares. Their size wasn't as small as most mini spares but it definitely is smaller than the full size tires.
yeah, our 240 came with a mini, which we swapped out for a standard when we binged a rim on a pothole and got an insurance replacement (when the 240 was still brand new). the binged rim still held air, it just didn't balance that great. don't remember EVER having to use it in 500,000 miles but I always replace the tires BEFORE they are badly worn.
maybe its just our 94 mercedes wagon that has a full sized spare stock.
I picked up a T125/70D15. I don't have any worry about driving on it; it's rated for 690 kg.
(if my little wagon ever approaches a GVW of 2760 kg, I have bigger problems)
But it doesn't fit into the wheel well. There's enough room for it, but the wheel doesn't stand up far enough because this tire is narrower than the wheel, and the retaining nut won't clamp down on it. I remedied that with a couple of plywood shims.
So ... project complete, but I still don't know what the right size is.
