Default starts--dies after 1 min.

91 740 was running fine. Driving about 30 miles an hour--then it died, no hesitation,no sputter, just lost engine. Had it towed home checked spark (fine), fuel at the rail (fine), turned over but would not start. Pulled the codes, pin in #2 got 1-3-2 (battery voltage too low or high?) #6 1-1-1, cleared tried to start ran for about 2 min. then sputtered and died, does this everytime now. When running it dies the second you give it any throttle. Possible RPM/speed sensor? Any ideas or advice would be greatly appr. THank you.

Put a voltmeter on the battery when it does start, look for 14v - 15v running.
If its low check the brushes, if its high , check the regulator.

Watch the tach when it dies.
If it drops dead to zero as engine diesthen its ignition/elec.
If the needle falls WITH engine rpm as it dies its fuel.

To me it sounds like weak spark.

jonesg, Thank you for your reply. Just was out checking alt. output 13.96 when running. Sat for apr. 3 hrs started rightt up ran for app. 3 min -- started slowing down on idle missed and died--fired back up ran app. 45 seconds slowed down missed and died. Earlier tapped on RPM sensor when running started missing and died. when it first happened car would crank but not fire or even try.

I would watch the voltage when it starts to die, see if it drops before rpm does.
It could be worn brushes.

It also sounds like fuel delivery, could be any of these things really until you isolate the problem.

When it starts to splutter try keeping it running with ether, I spray it in the vac hose leading from the pressure regulator to the throttle body, if you can keep it going with ether its the pump or injectors.
Swap the 2 relays on the coolant bottle bracket as a quick test.

Jonesg, have already tried to swap relays when it first happened, did not get any results. Apon getting it home tried either--no results. Will try watching meter when it dies, again "Thank You" for your help and patiance. This is turning out to be an interesting challenge for me!
