Interesting idea. I suppose I'd have to crawl under the car and remove some parts to get to the transmission.

PS. If it's a paper seal(they don't swell) it won't work. And if it's paper and it's brand new then torquing down the bell housing bolts should help somewhat.

No way for me to find out if it's paper, but it's not been touched in 30 years.

I just noticed on the diagram that 7A is referred to as a 'ring', so it has to be rubber.

Then there might be hope for the AT-205.

Sorry I don't believe in snake oil fixes.

I guess I'll think about it some more. There's plenty of time and a quart of Dexron III is only $11 every six weeks. It's just the putting it in that gets old. Thanks all!

Like you, I'm very cautious of 'quick fixes'. But, since it was highly recommended by a mechanic with over 50 years of experience and a huge Youtube following (which takes a long time of truth and honesty to achieve) I gave it a try. And it worked 'exactly' like he said it would. At the same time I'm very cautious of mechanics who promote high-cost labor repairs when there might be a quicker and easier solution. Which is why I never go to a dealer, if it can be avoided. To each his own.

So, six months after I added ATP AT-205 Reseal, I've had to add another pint of transmission fluid. That's a big improvement. The leak is now roughly where it was in 1989 after I had the transmission serviced.

the problem is more than likely due to a worn tailshaft bushing. If you replace the rear seal without changing the bushing then the new seal will most likely leak as well.

Default Trade off

[QUOTE=hoonk;528696]People have different opinions about that guy -

ANY leak fixer is going to work by using solvents to make rubber swell. But - hey it's xx years old and still running, not worth much, what do you have to lose? (other than your daily transportation)[/QUOTE

The trade-off is all dependent on whether the seals are still intact. It may not work if they are misshapen or poorly installed. If they were the start of the leak problem in the first place the stop leak solution likely won’t work.
