Tail light assembly replaced

Question Tail light assembly replaced

I replaced my tail light assembly on 1992 740 wagon and now I notice that the 3rd bake light comes on with the running lights and stays on but gets brighter when i apply brake pedal is this normal or do I have open ground some where any advice appreciated

If it was ok before - either you wired your taillamp wrong, there is a difference in the old and new taillamp or the ground is not connected properly.

thank you for response I got car with broken taillight assemblies first time having it running and I am not sure if it was on prior ? Is there a way to figure if it is correct

I would bet on a bad ground to a tail lamp if the 3rd brake glows dim with parking lamps and there is a 1157 dual filament bulb in one of the lenses. (can't remember if there is a dual function bulb in one of those.) If so a bad ground will cause current to back feed through the brake bulbs. Take the 3rd brake light (and probably the brake bulb on the other side) and watch the parking lights not work (I guess you are just having a problem on one side)

Whenever there are multiple symptoms, pick one (simplest) and trace it down first.
