Default Tailgate strut ball socket stuck

Hello! I'm brand new to Volvo's and recently picked up an 87 240 dl wagon. the tailgate struts were no longer holding up the tailgate so I went ahead and tried to replace them. however, one of the ball sockets was on so tightly it snapped the strut when i went to remove it. I've since taken off the stud it's connected too, socket still attached, and am now wondering if anyone has any advice for me on how to remove the socket and reuse the stud.
I've sprayed it with WD40 and let it sit overnight and that has not loosened it one bit. I've basically accepted that I need to buy a new socket with the strut being snapped, but the stud would not be shipped to me for quite some time and I'm hoping to just get this off and reuse it. Thanks in advance

See if this vid helps - did you remove the clip pins?
