Timing gear belt
I just bought a '93 240 with 165,000 miles on it. There is no way to tell if the timing gear belt has been changed in the last 100,000 miles. I had a timing gear belt blow on an 850 and it warped my valves and cost a bundle to repair.
I have been told that on the 240 that the timing gear belt when blown will not cause the damage that was done to my 850. Should I replace this part before it breaks, or replace it when needed?
Thanks,

You can pull the upper cover off and look at the belt.If it has any cracks at all replace it.
If the belt breaks it will not cause any damage. You can just put a new belt on and start it up and go.
