Default tire choices

i need to find some summer tires to replace the snows that are on the rear now.. ( think it's probably safe to remove the snows now... sigh).
anyway i can get a good deal on cooper lifeliner gls.

Cooper Tire & Rubber Company - Lifeliner GLS?

anyone have any experience with them? i have el dorados on the front now (also made by cooper) and i like them a lot after one year.
unfortunately, we have little choice in 185 70 14 tires these days if you don't want to pay michelin prices...

thanks for any comments

If you are happy with the Coopers, and they are cheap, why switch? Stay the course!

Here in the mountains of Colorado I used Pirelli P4 seasons year round. I got 40K plus miles from each set,but they just became too darned hard to get a hold of. I am now running General Altimax RT43's. They were one of the highest rated 14 inch tires on Tire Rack.com. We'll see how these do.
BTW :I run the Infamous Glenwood Canyon everyday...know for it's winding, treacherous road conditions, and wrecks in the winter.

thanks busdude the generals are avaliable here in Mass. - about middle price between the coopers and michelins, so i will look into them. for winter just for info i was using semperit ice grips... probably the best snow tire i have ever run. excellent traction in the 240 even without studs.

I love the Michelin Primacy MXV4 I've put on several cars, and I've heard the new Premier A/S are as good or better. they last a long time, they have a nice quiet ride, and good traction wet and dry, and they still work well until they are very worn out.

Michelin is still the best. They last longer than other tire brands as long as you keep them properly inflated and balanced. In the end they don't really cost more since you get more life out of them. This is my personal experience.

there are plenty of other tires that last as long as Michelins, the catch-22 is they start sucking before they are half worn and you can't wait to get rid of them.

that said, the 300CE Cabrio I just bought came with some sticky lousy-mileage Bridgestones that are quite a hoot to peel out hard on a sharp turn from a stop. >CHIRP!<

i ended up going with the cooper lifeliners. they were an exact match tread pattern wise to the el dorados on the front that are also made by cooper.
plus, 55 bux a tire is cheap in my opinion. the car rides real smooth. will see how long they last ...

thanks for all the suggestions and comments
