too much oil pressure

too much oil pressure
1990 740 turbo
Have replaced oil trap and checked hoses/connections.
What else can be causing this excess pressure?
I have replaced the front camshaft seal as it was leaking and replaced the gasket on the oil fill cover.
I smell oil in the car when under acceleration. If I remove the oil cap while running, the cap will "float" telling me I have too much pressure...
Where/how else can this thing be building up this excess pressure. At a real loss here.
Thanks for your help.

Ran pipe cleaner through the nipples on the intake tonight. Also going to change oil (was running 10w40, going to switch to 10w30) and filter. Maybe it's just a clogged filter?
What is the "valve" below the intake manifold...? It has a 1 inch or so hose coming from the turbo intercooler and a 1 inch or so hose running up to the intake manifold. There is also an electrical connection on the back. Could this be the culprit? Is this the EGR valve and can I take it apart and clean it instead of replacing it?
Hope one of these things helps. I'm at a loss and about to take it to a mechanic, which I only like to do when I cannot fix things myself.
Swiftjustice, thanks for your help as always and whoever else can set me straight on this as well!

I run 20w50 in my car, but it doesn't get that cold here.
My next suggestion is to add about a half litre (just under a pint) of kerosene to your engine oil and drive sedately for about 1000km (6-700 miles). It will help free any stuck rings and clean the bores if they are carboned up.
I did this on my car and noticed immediate results with reduced blowby. The B230 is a large bore engine so it is a good candidate for glazing bores.
The valve you refer to is the idle air valve, no problems can be found there.
Regards, Andrew.

It could possibly be your oil pump. The pressure regulator spring controls how much pressure is bypassed back into the pan. If this spring has faulted, then it can cause too little or too much pressure into the engine. It's a PITA job (I'm currently doing my wife's now) so make sure it's your pump before tackling this.
