Default turbo cis for vw

Thanks for your help i know absolutly nothing about volvo. I am a vw guy. I am building a 91 gti 16v. I have restored the car and upgraded something but my goal is to look factory. So cis is what i want.(old school) Its all set up for turbo except the fuel. This is the reason i came to this forums. I have been doing a lot of reading and i guess the 240turbo cis bolts rite into the vw and fires rite up. My 3 questions are,

1. What can the cis system from the 240turbo support for horsepower in a volvo? I have read about 240? Yes or no

2. How reliable is volvo cis?

3. When going to the junkyard to find one of these cars what should i look for as year and signs of malfunctioning cis distributer?

Thanks guys like i said i know nothing about volov and im going to try to search but these forums are brand new to me.

I wish I had a picture of my turbo K-Jet for you but I don't think I do. But also, since I am an Old VW guy and have been down this road many a times in the past. Let me insert some past cars here.

Here is a drafting of a Volvo K-Jet system, as you can tell it is very similar to the VW CIS system. The difference is in the physical size of the fuel distributor. You will need the Volvo air box unless you plan on building your own custom air box. Which is not beyond the scope of reality. Another option that is much more bolt in and go is the Audi 5000 turbo CIS system. Which you are going to want the injectors from. One of the bottle necks on the VW CIS system is the injectors. Also let me note this is from a PRV motor, but pretty much exactly the same.

AS for your questions.

1. I have seen people running 300hp with an 11th wire trick done on the volvo K-Jet system.

2. The Volvo K-Jet is just as reliable as the VW CIS. But just like with the VW CIS if you don't start it and run it at least once a week it will start to cause troubles with settling sediment and sticking injectors.

3. When you go to the Junk yard you will have to look for a turbo volvo 240 1981 to 1985. It will be fairly obvious which one you want because of all the turbo badges all over. Also, I'm trying to count out of my memory but i thini k there are 6 vertically facing ports. The VW braided injector lines will bolt right up to the the Volvo fuel distributor.

A final HIGH horsepower option. And I mean good to like 500+hp. Is to get a fuel distributor block from a Mercedes V8 with CIS. I do have one that I bought but haven't gone through it to make sure everything is okay.

If you want to skip the junkyard you can buy new fuel distributor blocks from companies like FCP groton. But i'm unaware of the price.
