Im pretty sure my u joints and center bearing are totally shot, the car clunks pretty bad when it goes into gear, and sometimes when im driving i can hear the drive shaft start knocking or rumbling

how much does this repair typically cost, parts and labor at a volvo specialist

 

a lot....more than I'd care to type out. Enough to make a guy figure out how to do it himself. That's not much help I know. But, if you have the mechanical sense to do so....I would definatly try it yourself.

 

The parts are cheap, less than $100. Volvo "experts" will do what they have to-better do it yourself, it's easy...

 

U-joints list at $36 each and center support bearing is $22. But then you've got the dealer markup. Take $94 and double it to $188. The book says each U-joint is 0.5 hours and center support 0.4 hrs. 1.4 hrs at $100 per is $140. Plus another 0.5 hrs for giggles. So let's say we're pushing $400 for the whole nine yards.

But they give you a free cup of coffee while you wait.
