Hello!

I have recently replaced the steering rack in my 1991 240. I bled it by turning the wheel from side to side with the cap off and topping up the reservoir as needed. I have noticed the following "oddities" since then.

My local Volvo guru (who also sold me the new steering rack) told me to use valvoline power steering fluid instead of ATF. Apprently this should be better. However, I have noticed that the level of fluid does not change from cold to hot - I am certainly not losing fluid but it doesnt seem like it expands to the H level after driving.

Furthermore, when removing the cap after a long drive, there is a distinct sound of air rushing either into or out of the reservoir - like a "pop" when opening a bottle of soda. I am quite certiain its a vaccuum but havent checked - it might also be pressure escaping.

Is this normal? My old steering rack was leaking like crazy so there was never any kind of change in pressure when I took the cap off.

I am thinking that I might not have bled the system enough. Can this cause it? The car steers fine and the servo works. Before chaning the steering rack I accidentally drove it for two minutes - like 200 feet with no fluid in the pump - could this have ruined it?
