Vibration after swapping rear ends
I just recently removed the rear axle from my oldwrecked '89 240 wagon into my "new" '91 240 sedan. When I moved the drive shaft over, I failed to mark the aligmnent of the front part of the drive shaft to match up with the rear.
The Haynes manual states that the yoke must line up and has a nice diagram that describes it. It also states that both the front and rear driveshafts are balanced as a unit and therefore has to go together just right. Just aligning the yokesgivesme a 50-50 chance of getting it correct. The drive shaft is pretty clean and has original markings on it. I suspect that they must have marked it in a way so it is assembled correctly at the factory. Does anyone out there have an idea what markings it may have to help me align the two parts so it is properly balanced.
Right now it seems to drive ok, but there is a slight vibration from 20-30 mph and around 40 as well. It also seems a little "rumbly" when cruising at 60. It might be my paranoid imagination but I'd like it to be a bit smoother.
