Volvo 240 - Windshield Wiper Help?
About 4 months ago, My windshield wipers stopped working during a thunderstorm which after I took to a local mechanic and they fixed it up for $75. They told me the motor itself was weak, and could happen again soon.
So again, I was driving during, a thunderstorm came in, and of course my wipers would not start. I can't hear the motor either.
I've looked at the threads on here, and it may seem as if it's a fuse issue? I opened the compartment, but I can't tell which fuse is for the windshield wipers..
Also I checked this video:
- but it seems wayy to intense for anything I was expecting.
Any help would be greatly appreciated..!

my daughter was able to change the wiper motor on her 240, with me standing around and supervising, not following any particular instructions.
It was pretty easy. IIRC, we took the glovebox out, unclip the wiper drive rods from the motor behind the glovebox, unbolt the motor from the firewall, remove, bolt in new motor, hook up wiper drive, plug in motor, replace the glove box, and good to go.
before replacing it, get a volt meter and verify you have 12V at the motor when the wiper is turned on.
oh. its fuse 2 on a 1997-88 240 (fuse 2 is also the horn). probably the same on most others, but I'm not going to tabulate every year.
at the wiper motor connector, pin 53A (yellow) is always powered, this is used to return the wiper to home when its shut off. pin 53 (brown) is fast, 53B (green) is normal (or maybe I have those backwards). the white/black wire on pin 31b goes to the intermittent timer.

You mentioned that you replaced the motor, however when I got this fixed a while ago, they didn't replace the motor. I'm assuming they've just replaced a part to have a temp fix. Any suggestions on what I should be looking for?

unplug the wiper motor. turn the ignition on without starting the car, set the wiper speed for 'normal', and measure the voltage between the green wire and the ground wire (which is a seperate briaded wire to a screw, IIRC), you should see your battery voltage, about 12.6V.
my daughter's wipers had barely been limping the last couple years. new motor and varoom, zip-zap, clean windows again! I wasn't looking forward to having to replace the mechanisms that hook both wipers up to the motor, luckily, we didn't have to... this on a 1987 240 that we're the original owners of, and which has about 400K miles on it.
