Default Volvo 740 GL Pump Runs After Shutting The Car Off!

I can still hear my fuel pump running after my car is shut off. It doesn't do it all the time. Some times the car won't start if i shut it off & then try to restart it after it's warmed up. I'm hoping it's just the fuel pump relay! Any ideas?

Thanks,
Scott

Doesn't matter and doesn't matter...Most likely it is the fuel pump relay. If the relay points stick closed, the pumps will continue to run. Not restarting hot is quite often the fpr too. There's a chance your ignition switch has worn enough to not always turn off or on completely too. Those are the common issues...there are any number of much less common issues that could cause it. The 6 connector socket that the relay plugs into has an always hot leg on it...even with the key off...that's how stuck contacts can cause the running.

Thank you so much guys! I was thinking the same thing on the lines of a fuel pump relay.

Default fuel relay problem?

I made one of the heated seat buttons a phantom switch for my relay, its the closest to the fuse box and of course you shut it off manually, pretty quick installation, just remember to install a remider light..cuz u might forget to turn it off...lol... thats if u dont wanna buy the whole ignition relay thing...

Trust me, sooner or later, you'll forget! The car will be deader than a Jimmy Carter speech!
