Default Volvo 940s missing

Hi my 1992 volvo 940s estate is missing,it started to miss about 6 weeks ago then after i parked it up and drove it the next day had no problems until yesterday where it was missing bad after driving along. Also i had my windscreen washer jets cleaned yesterday and the tube put back on the windscreen washer pump. Also my speedometer is flicking up to 50-60mph when only going 2o mph or so then it seems to settle down after a while going back to normal speed.Plugs and leads the cause? Or another cause loose connection somewhere or a sensor maybe?

Any help appreciated got my mot in a week

cheers sean

An engine misfire calls for an evaluation, starting with what used to be called a "tune up"... Plugs, wires, rotor, dist. cap, etc. There may be other causes, however: vacuum leaks, fuel issues, bad head gasket, etc, but the ignition system tune up is a good place to start.

The speedometer issue is most likely due to bad capacitors in the speedo itself and there is no easy cure--need a new speedo or replace the capacitors which is a fiddly procedure in the best of cases. For some reason '92s are particularly afflicted with bad speedos.

A '92 is an OBD1 car, the codes provided in the above post are for OBD2 equipped, so useless as usual...

Not really useless. The video shows how to check plugs, compression and other misfire related stuff. Did you watch the video or just read the title?

If you see spark traveling around wires etc., it sounds like you need new leads.

ideally, use bougicord wiresets, they are by far the best for these volvos, they meet the original manufacturing specs
