Default Wagon heater issue..

Hey guys i just got i 92 wagon for free from a family member. It has 330xxx miles and running strong. It's had one owner its whole life.. Its seen allot of love and has been extremely well taken care of. I drove it from PA to my house in CO this past weekend with no problems at all. The next morning it was 10 below out and i started it to warm it up and the blower motor didn't come on. So i drove to walmart ( with no heat) and got a plug in little heater. I messed around with fuses and wiggling them and everything for a while and got nothing. Then yesterday it came back on randomly for about an hour. Since then it will come on and off intermittently. So this makes me think maybe a loose ground somewhere? or just corrosion maybe... I don't think its the blower resistor, B/C it will work sometimes. Also the previous owner said he never has had any problems with that before. What do you guys think.?

Thanks,

Keith

Well, with those miles, it may be due for a replacement. You are on the right track checking the obvious electricals but if that doesn't help, put a new motor in it.

Ok, ill see if i can pull one at a junkyard to see if that helps. The only thing is, It seems to maybe be motion related. I hit a speed bump a little to fast, It was a hard hit but the heater came back on. Only for a while tho. If i pull the motor can i look for signs of burning or maybe melted wires? I'm not too handy with a voltmeter but should i check the motor and resistor with that?

That's how a worn out motor will act. And if you have melted wires and such, the motor won't work at all. As far as checking an electric motor, it's the brushes that wear out, so check them, or just replace them on the motor you have now.
