warning lights illuminated '86 240DL
While returning home from work yesterday the dashboard warning lights for battery and emergency brakes came on. Is this an electrical problem or something more serious? (They are flickering weakly). What could this be and what to do?
Thanks
Thanks
Thank you. Does that mean the battery is not recharging? How would I know if that is the problem? Is it a simple fix or does it mean a new alternator?
Check with a Milti meter and see what it is charging at.
If the brushpack is bad it is replacible. You can remove it look on the back of the Alt. Look for a Round black thing with a phillips screw on each side. Remove it and look at the Metal things sticking up.
If they are about 1 inch long then they are good. If they are less than 1/4 they are worn.

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately I did not have the time to do this apparently simple repair myself so ended up paying $300 for a new alternator installed.OUCH!
