Is it a bad thing to disconnect the wastegate on a stock '94 940 B230 FT Turbo? What would it do?

 

overboost and blow the motor. quickly, probably the first time you do a full throttle windup.

 

Yeah, don't do it. These engines bring boost in very early, so overboost is very easy to do. I've seen spikes to 35psi on my car at 3000 rpm when the MBC stuck closed.
Buy an MBC, install it properly and max 14psi on stock everything.
