Water pump how do you tell if it is working?

Water pump how do you tell if it is working?
I have a 91 740 none turbo 4 cylinder.How do you tell if the water pump is working,I know if you had a radiator cap to tke of you could see it curcuilating in the radiator.

What makes you think it's NOT working? If it's not leaking, then it's probably fine. Volvo pumps, unlike others, have metal impalers and I have never seen one fail. If it did fail, you'd see the temp shoot up really fast once the car warms up.
