Default How do you tell a transmission problem?

Hey guys, I just like to know what is the sign of a failing transmission?

I have a 2001 V70 T5 and there are a number of them with failed transmission. My car has over 130,000 km on it and like to know what are the symptoms of a transmission that is going to go bad.
Also, what would it cost to fix the transmission. Get a rebuilt (if any good ones out there) or a new one from volvo?

Im still new to volvo's own a v70 xc myself, recently bought. But most transmission problems start with slipping or having trouble finding gears. Or the worst having no gears. So if yours dosen't slip and it finds its gears and stays in them then your ok for now. Trannys usually not always work up until they finally give out cause when they break they break.

Hi, You will know when things go bad with your tranny!!!
I had a few issues which are now all gone..
firstly get the neutral control function disabled, get all nessasary software
upgrades, get the tranny flushed, NOT DRAINED, it must be
flushed .
if you still have issues after that then you have a problem, i have done all these things to my tranny now i never have a problem
good luck

I have done the neutral control function disabled - done all the necessary upgrade to software (the last one is jan 2005 - when my car was in warranty)

I did a full tranny flush 6 weeks ago.

Here are my symptoms:
1. There is a jerking once in a while when shifting gears, almost like a grinding noise. This went away after the tranny flus.
2. there is a jerking when top to first gear. (this was gone after the tranny flush too - and I thought that this was not suppose to be here after the neutral control function disabled)

what do you think? is my tranny shot? How much to fix??? :S

If it is too much, i will ditch the car and get an accord - NOT the option i want to go to!!

Your damage might have already been done before the tranny
flush, only a few hundred km's with your tranny in bad shape can stuff it up for good.
Do you have any issues with your abs module, it can mess
things up a bit.
Did you use the correct tranny fluid, JWS-3309 manufactured by
mobil.
A new tranny installed in Australia will cost about 5-6k installed.
depending on where you are.
It may be cheaper in the Usa i would assume anywhere from 3-4k +
talk to your Volvo very nicely, they have ears.
I would just drive it and see if it sorts it self out.
good luck
