Default 240 cheap

None4- see I'm kinda looking at a $500 (looking to offer $200) 88 240 sedan myself locally. Is yours rusty? This one has soft spots on the floor, but generally seems pretty tight. Like the doors all open nicely. Reaks of dog. 90K original miles. Dave

Hey Dave (that's my name too..) I live in California and rust isn't really an issue out here so the body is in really good shape, looks like it would just need a wax or something to make it shiny in the duller areas. I t still has some shine though. It has one little dent on the back passenger door. Doors are nice and tight. Interior is clean now that I've vacuumed out all the dog hair and crumbs and junk. It looked like it hadn't been washed in ages, brake dust caked on the hubcaps, etc.. but it cleaned up nicely, looks good now. Even smells good, no must or midlew or old car smell. Odometer stopped at 245k so i don't know what it really has. What state are you in ? Oh btw, I went for another spin up the incline, it wouldn't down shift on the hill area, just the flat, would only go to about 40 mph in 3rd with O/D off, so I put in 2nd and it climbed up the hill until I let off the gas at about 55 mph. Does that sound right ? I realize it's only 114 hp pushing 2900+ lbs, but do I need to replace a kickdown cable or something ?

Dave- I'm in upstate NY, near Syracuse. rust IS a big deal up here. Our 2000 Caravan is rusting out. (see post titled Got NO business looking at it!) This 88 has 90k and is REALLY filthy. dog has been living in it for years. 1/2 inch of dog fur on rear floor. Stinks! I'm thinking throw out everything including carpet, our local u pull it junkyard has 5$ seat special day. I think I'm going down there today and offer 200 bucks. We'll see what happens. Whats cool is it looks just like my 89 240 wagon, only its a sedan (Blue). have not started it or driven it. My wife is gonna kill me if I buy it. I figure I need a couple of tires, its got 2 "new" tires, it just came with a car attached.

As far as your driving stuff, the only thing I've had was the kickdown got snagged one time and it wouldnt shift into high gear. straightened it out and all was good. Is it just not getting into its high gear, or not shifting down? They are not real fast, but moves out decently. You should make a new topic post with that as a specific question- you'll get lots of advice. Dave

Well, at the request of my new friends Redbottle and Daver80, here it is, my baby. I love this car ! I think maybe more so that my trusty Saturn SL2 which has never let me down, is faster and has more sporty handling thanks to it's Eibach springs, but for some reason, I just don't care. I love the easy ride and sturdy feel of the car and I'm content to drive slower and cruise when I'm in it, not to mention it's easier to get it and it sits a little higher although I wouldn't mind getting rid of some of that wheel gap in the front, lol. If I had to choose, I'd go with this here Volvo. Let me know what you think.

None4- looks nice! regular cream puff. I got shut down by my wife on the 88 I was looking at. Guess I already have too many vehicles (including 2 snowblowers- she didnt like the idea of his and hers snowblowers). Your headlights look hazy- like mine were. the lenses come off pretty easy (mine had a bunch of water in there) They can be cleaned, but I saw brand new lenses on ebay for 25 bucks each. That would really sweeten the look. Enjoy it! Dave

Thanks Dave, I'm glad you like it. The lenses are pretty hazy but they do still seem to light up pretty bright at night. Someday, perhaps I'll get to those after the rearend, taillight, wiper motor and missing rocker molding. My friend is going to look at showing me how to do the brake line tonite so hopefully, I'll be one step closer to road readiness.
