I have a '86 740 that I picked up a few days go. The interior is SHOT. I'd love to drop some 960 seats in the thing if they would fit.

Of all the Volvo's I've owned, the S70 seats have been the best fit and comfort for me, I know they won't fit but a nice set of 960 seats would be good.

The 740 seats are actually a better fit for me than the 960 seats but I really don't have any hopes of finding any of them in good shape, just to old.

Let me know what you guys think my best options are. Thanks, I look forward to making this car nice again.

 

Robert, I'm pretty sure 940 seats are a direct fir except for the electric seat connections. I've also heard of S70 seats being used. I'll do a bit more research and get back to ya

 

740 seats actually last very well, especially the cloth--I see them all the time in the JYs. Even the leather from late 80's survives better that later years. It is the color that is a factor as tan never survives while black is quite durable...

'86 will accept every 740 or 760 seat and even any 940 seat. If the 940 happens to be powered, about half are, you can easily adapt it to your 740. 960's are all power but they will bolt in fine as well, just have to hook up the power and will have power seats.

The seats in this car are black and leather. Real bad shape especially the rears which is strange.

 

any 7/9 seat, including the S90/V90, should bolt right in. you may need to make for power seats, and when I put newer 960 seats in my 92 740, I had to hack off a bit off the back of the rail so the 740's plastic trim piece would fit.

and yeah, I had to hook up the power, my car wasn't wired for them. fairly trivial. grab the power connectors from the donor car

 

Thanks guys. I'll start looking for a donor car. Some guy put a 960 on CL Sunday for $600, I couldn't resist and purchased it. It has a few issues but has a good motor and trans. I think I'm going to fix & flip it first, then focus on the 740.
