Default Will the Sun Visor from a 1990 or 1991 740 fit into a 1992?

My 1992 740 turbo with sunroof could use a new sun visor for the driver side. The current driver side falls off in my lap, which isn't very useful.

Plastic part that screws into the roof has a chunk missing from it. Whoever had this car before me really reamed on it. It's always been loose but now it just falls right out.

I gave ordering a new one from swedishautoparts.com a shot and wound up getting a message that my order was canceled three days later because it was discontinued and out of stock.

Anybody know if an earlier model year's sun visor would fit a 92?

Sounds like the roof liner is damaged. The screws in the hinged side should keep it up and the other side keeps it from swinging around while you drive.

The actual visors should be the same, pay your local Pick N Pull salvage yard a visit and see what's going on there, or look at your passenger side.

If the plastic portion that mounts into the roof that the pivot arm attaches is cracked/broken, there won't be enough friction/tension to hold the visor up. Visors are sided on the 7/9 series...you must get one from the same side as the mounting bases are mirror imaged. All the visors are interchangeable from 83 to 92. Newer than that, I don't know.

They are interchangeable until later, at least 1995, just the Sunroof visors are different from the No Roof ones.

there are, however, visors with lit and unlit mirrors in various trim levels.

I'm curious, how do the no-sunroof visors differ from the sunroof ones?

Oh, it's not the head liner... it's this:

it's part of the sun visor. it screws into a couple of mounting holes in the roof on the other side of the headliner and then drops the shade part of the sun visor because it's missing a huge chunk of plastic that holds the rod end of the shade... or whatever that part is called.

The base plate that butts up to the roof is bigger on the no roof ones. It may be filed down or cut to make it fit.
