Default Wondering how much to sell a 79 244DL

Hello. I own a 1979 244DL with a rebuilt engine and over 600k miles. It's got some body and upholstery issues, the drivers side door is broken and the other doors only open from the inside. Other than that it runs great and has been incredibly reliable for me. It was actually a loaner car for a Volvo repair shop for years so has been well maintained. Anybody have a suggested price I should try and shoot for when selling this? I just want to make sure I don't get ripped off because my car knowledge is limited. I've heard the metal alone is quite valuable. Let me know if you need more info for a quote. Thanks!

Makes a big difference where you are located but I'd shoot for upwards of $500. The metal is worth $300...

if it was in very good condition inside and out, and you're selling it in a hipster-rich environment, maybe $2500 unless it was show-car cherry perfect without any evidence of amateur hackery, then maybe MAYBE $5000 for an early model in perfect like-new condition to some yuppie-spawn neo-hipster with more money than brains.

Sounds like it has a few problems that some people might avoid.

Post a couple pics of the car.

The price varies like crazy on these.

yeah, scrap metal value mostly. if its a flathood, and the grill and lights are in good condition, they are worth something to the retro-hipster crowd.

I have a 1979 244DL and had to get mine apprised because Geico tried to salvage title me after a fender bender. I fought it and after a 3rd party inspector

Getting front bumper replaced with original

came out who does vintage cars said it was worth $4700 at 298k miles. I won the battle and can still drive on the road with a clean title. I think I could sell it more here in San Diego. But they can be worth money but not to any insurance company, so drive carfully! I had this car in Honolulu as well and people would stop me once or twice a month offering money for it.

In the case of any old car, it's hands down about the condition, low miles help too! A perfect Ford Pinto recently sold for $12K!

In my neck of the woods the 240s from the 80s and 90s sell for good money, but they are usually in good to very good condition. In the condition you describe, that car is only about 150 to 200 here. We just paid 6500 for one that is in showroom new condition with less than 40k on the clock.

Wow, what a color! Hats off to being bold. Someday my 2-door will be repainted, right now it is a badly aged burgundy. FYI, my mechanic said he had a custimer sell her early 80s 240 for $5,000 in Northern California.

suggest, unless you're going to do a complete strip down to the chassis and sandblast inside and out, don't change colors.
