1998 S90 winter mode and starting problem
Hello!
I have a couple of problems with my 1998 s90 and from the reading here and in other places, it sounds like they may be caused by a single switch.
In the morning, the car sticks in winter mode and the orange arrow and the transimission mode buttons flash. After driving for about 10 minutes, if I pull over, turn the car off, wait a few seconds and then restart the car, the transmission then "resets" and drives normally until it has sat a while and it happens all over again. This started as an intermittant problem, now happens all the time. When I first complained about it, the volvo dealership said I had a bad battery and replaced it. That did NOT solve the problem.
More recently, another problem has popped up. If I start the car, drive for only a short time, say a minute or two, shut the car off, it will not restart. All the lights come on but it will not turn over. If I wait a little while, it will eventually turn over and restart. Sometimes, cycling the shifter will get it to start, otherwise I just have to sit there for 5 or 10 minutes before it will crank.
Finally, which brings me to this posting, I moved the car over the weekend from one side of the driveway to the other. When I went to start in on Monday morning, it would not turn over. Looks like losts of power, just won't turn over. Tried jumping it without any improvement. Checked all the fuses and swapped relays around without any change.
Is it this PNP switch? If so, then where is it? and can I replace it myself? Is there another neutral safety switch as well? Where is it and can I replace it myself. Which should I start with?
Thanks!

RE: 1998 S90 winter mode and starting problem
i don't have answers for all your problems, but the "W" mode / orange arrow / tranny mode button error code my be as simple as a bad "tranny mode switch" module. i believe the cost of the switch is < $150 and install time is relatively short if you know how to pull apart the shifter console quickly. the switches go bad because people spill crapola into the switch and causes the PCB to haywire, hence triggering a code in the transmission computer. or something to that effect
