Default 92 960 ticking from engine

ok ok, last post for the day, i swear, but anyways, i got a ticking in the motor cold or hot, seems like a lifter tick (im a bmw mechanic, we see this all the time with our 6cyl motors) but i wasnt sure if this was a common issue with these or not, if it is, i dont want to replace them if its not necessary but i have no problem digging into it and getting down and dirty, i need a timing belt and water pump in it anyways, but id rather know if i should put the lifters in it when i have the belt off or is it gonna be a waste of my time.
thanks for any advice from you guys, oh and it has 273,000 miles on it and im using a 5w30 castrol syn oil (i get it for free from work) and a napa gold filter, and ive tried a quart of marvel mystery oil last oil service and it didnt do anything, i just want to renew this car back to its glory, it was neglected for a few years by previous owner and i got it from her for $300, couldnt pass it up

If it were my case I would use 20W50 and replace a quart with Lucas oil treatment. But thats just me. Start with a good tune up: air filter, fuel filter, new sparks plugs and wires cap and rotor , idk if you have coil packs but if u dont then replace does, put some seafoam treatment in the engine oil and another one in the gas. You should start from there
