Default Considering a 1995 or 1994 960 sedan

Under the 240 board I posted that my 1990 240 was in a crash, and I am looking to replace it. Under consideration is a

1995 960 with 125k miles
1994 960 with 185k miles

Any thoughts on the reliability and quality of these cars? Ideally I would have replaced my 240 with another, but it is hard to find one in decent shape, without over 250k miles, and post-1990 when they introduced the airbag to the car.

Thanks in advance!

Go for the '95, it's quite a nice upgrade in terms of interior quality, aerodynamics, and aesthetics.

If you purchase this car be aware of the timing belt change for these engines.
They are interference engines and a broken timing belt can break valves and damage pistons in a catastrophic way.

I think in 1995 timing belt change interval was 50,000 miles. Someone will correct or verify this.

They are great cars I have a 1997 965, great road car. IF you buy it try and find out when the timing belt was last replaced, if it can't be determined I would change it. When mine was replaced I did the water pump and tensioner also.

Good luck

I have heard that some 1992-1995 engines had porous blocks, i.e. manufacturing defects in the block. You can read about it here http://www.brickboard.com/FAQ/700-90...960B6304Blocks
