Default Fuel pump access cap hoses

I replaced the in-tank fuel pump on my 760T last year. Since then, I have smelled fuel when filling the fuel tank. I recently removed the access cover to investigate the problem and found the cap has an open pipe on the passenger side of the cap, looking at it from the top. The car runs fine but there is a lingering fuel odor. Does anyone know what is supposed to be connected to that pipe? I assume it's a vent pipe but don't see a return hose for it. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.
